Andy Wauman WET FEET BET
Deweer Art Gallery presents Andy Wauman, a young Belgian artist, with a solo show entitled 'WET FEET BET'.
Andy’s works speak about the possibility of freedom. They are messages with a romantic sense for anarchy and love. In his statements, he often uses images that have been violated, multiplied and copied by commercial media. He recuperates common metaphors and symbols and gives them back their original romantic touch or even ideological meaning. The poetic quality is striking.
Wet Feet Bet stands for the bet that an individual should make everyday with life itself, and for the want and the need for freedom that inspires an artist. Making a bet means taking a chance.
Within an upcoming movement of new young artists using the language of the social context they grew up in, with the so-called popular culture and media as basic ingredients, Andy Wauman’s feeling for materials and meaning is a marker.
The show will contain new sculptures and photographs.
At the opening, an artist book containing poetry and work by Andy Wauman will be presented as an alternative to the usual catalogue.
