Stephan Balkenhol
September 14 - October 27, 2002
Although this is already the sixth show of Stephan Balkenhol at DEWEER gallery (after one-man shows in '87, '90, '93, '96 and '99), the artist, as always, has managed to surprise us again with his new, renewed or innovative views on the sculptural figure. Whether it concerns his so-called 'head' or 'figure columns', his reliefs, or his free-standing statues, subtle stylistic changes gradually slip into his recurrent and familiar types. Today, the change is most apparent in the two plaster figures of stooping men. Both the material and the chosen posture are absolutely new in the artist's oeuvre. It is with feelings of pride and gratitude to the artist that we present this show and its catalogue to the public.
