Jan De Cock
Though he was born in 1976 in Etterbeek (Brussels), Jan De Cock studied 3D-Multimedia at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent.
Nowadays, the artist is famous for his large-scale installations, which he refers to himself as sculptures and Gesamtkunstwerke: total works of art. In these he explores the border areas between various art disciplines, from photography to architecture.
Among his works and exhibitions of major importance we mention Randschade Fig. 7 (Collateral Damage Fig. 7) (Museum for Fine Arts and S.M.A.K., Ghent, 2002), Denkmal 2 (Manifesta 5, San Sebastian, 2004), Denkmal 9 (Henry Van de Velde University Library, Ghent, 2004), Denkmal 53 (Tate Modern, London, 2005), Denkmal 5-12-3 (in collaboration with Comme des Garçons, Tokyo, 2005), Denkmal 4 (Casa del Fascio, Como, 2006), Denkmal 11 (Museum of Modern Art, New York, 2008), and Denkmal 23 and Repromotion (Palace of Fine Arts, Brussels, 2004 and 2009).
Jan de Cock lives and works in Brussels.
