Art Cologne

For its booth at the 42nd ArtCologne in 2008, Deweer Art Gallery has made a double selection. On the one hand the gallery presents young artists who are still to be discovered by the international audience and for whom Deweer Art Gallery will be the only gallery to bring their work to the fair. On the other hand the gallery selected artists who are internationally established and with whom the gallery has an excellent relationship since many years. The result is a show with Stephan Balkenhol, Tony Cragg, Wim Delvoye, Günther Förg, Thomas Lange, Koen Vanmechelen and Andy Wauman. The selection reflects the gallery’s philosophy and program which is inspired by diversity, productional support of each artist’s work and the efforts to promote young and upcoming artists.
Stefaan Dheedene will participate in the New Talents section with an installation combining his work Sun-Lite (2007) with works by Georg Baselitz, Ilya & Emilia Kabakov and Josef Felix Müller from the gallery’s stock into one conceptual ensemble.
An additional element of this project is the distribution of printed posters inside and outside the fair. On the posters, the titles of the works and the exact hour they are illuminated by Sun-Lite are written. Besides being a poetical structure, bringing into play a system of metaphors, this installation and event is also a reflection on the market value of the artworks as a consequence of a construction or a system. The context of an artfair is thus used for speculation, manipulation and fiction.
